LEDGER LIVE GUIDE

A clearer way to manage your crypto

Ledger Live brings your crypto accounts and portfolio activity into one place, while your private keys remain secured by your Ledger hardware wallet.

One place for your accounts

Ledger Live is designed to help you review crypto accounts, check balances, and follow transaction activity from a single interface. Add accounts for supported assets to see holdings together, rather than switching between disconnected tools. Market values can move quickly, so a portfolio total is best treated as a snapshot, not a promise of future performance. Your balance display may reflect current market prices and network conditions, and can differ slightly from prices on another service.

Use account names and asset labels to keep your overview understandable. When reviewing an activity item, check its network, status, amount, and destination carefully. A familiar asset name does not guarantee that an address or token is legitimate. Take time to verify the details that matter before acting.

Account setup normally starts by connecting and unlocking your hardware wallet, then selecting the asset you want to manage. Ledger Live can scan the relevant blockchain for account history without moving assets. Keep your software and device firmware current through official channels, and read release notes before updating. If an account looks unfamiliar, review its address and transaction history instead of assuming that every displayed token is trustworthy.

Hardware-backed self-custody

A Ledger signer keeps private keys protected inside a hardware device. Ledger Live provides an interface for viewing accounts and preparing supported actions; signing happens on the device after you review the transaction. This separation is an important security step, but it does not remove the need for careful decisions. Only approve a transaction when the details shown on your device make sense to you, and disconnect if something looks unexpected.

Your 24-word recovery phrase is the backup to your wallet. Write it down and store it offline in a secure place. Anyone who gets that phrase can gain control of the assets it protects. Never share it with a person, support agent, website, app, or chatbot. Ledger support will not ask you to enter it online. If you are prompted to reveal it, stop immediately.

Self-custody also means you are responsible for choosing the correct network and protecting access to your device. A PIN helps protect a device if it is lost, while the recovery phrase must stay separate from the device. Do not store the phrase in cloud notes, email, or screenshots. Make sure trusted people know how to locate your secure backup in an emergency without exposing it to others.

Explore with care

Crypto transactions are generally irreversible. Before sending assets, confirm the recipient address, selected network, and amount on your Ledger device screen. Consider a small test transfer when appropriate, and account for network fees. Be cautious with unsolicited messages, giveaway offers, unfamiliar token approvals, and links that imitate trusted brands. Bookmark official resources instead of following links from unexpected emails or social posts.

This interactive page is a visual portfolio preview with sample balances. It is not the official Ledger application, does not connect to a hardware wallet, and cannot send, receive, swap, or store cryptocurrency. No credentials or recovery phrases should ever be entered here. For real account management, download Ledger Live only from Ledger’s official website and follow its current security guidance. Crypto assets involve risk; this overview is educational and is not financial advice.

Before using any wallet feature, pause to understand what it will do. Network fees vary with congestion and are paid to validators or miners, not necessarily to the wallet provider. A token approval can grant a smart contract permission to move assets, so review and revoke permissions you no longer need using trusted tools. Keep a record of relevant transactions for your own accounting, and seek qualified tax guidance for your jurisdiction. There is no guaranteed recovery for an incorrectly sent transaction.
